Brian Hjlesvold
Board member
Brian is Metis and a career banker with over 30 years with the Royal Bank of Canada as a senior account manager in their commercial markets, with his last 14 years as manager of Indigenous markets for Alberta, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon. He retired in December 2013 and has since continued with his passion to see Indigenous Peoples succeed and participate in Canada's economy, to share in its resources in a responsible and respectful way and to live in safe and healthy communities. Brian is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, completing the Governance Essentials Program for Directors of Not-for-Profit Organizations in 2010 and completing the ICD Education Program for Directors December 4, 2022, and is a seasoned board member.
As a director of the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association in Alberta for the past 12 years, Brian fully believes in this not-for-profit organization whose premise is that one of the keys to successful determination, creating a better life for Canada’s Indigenous people and a better future for the next generation, lies in improving the management skills of those responsible for the stewardship of Indigenous resources. He is also chair for the Board of Metis Settlements Development Corporation, an Investment arm of the Metis Settlements General Council, and is in his fifth year on the Audit & Finance Committee for Covenant Health.
