Mary Lou Renaerts is inspired by how her team is responding to the challenges of COVID-19.
“They just give, and it’s because they care about their team and about patient care,” says Mary Lou, program manager for medicine at Grey Nuns Community Hospital.
Medicine is the largest program in the hospital, comprising six units. During COVID, they’ve had dedicated space in their area to care for COVID patients.
“The only way we got through this is together. The teamwork and how our team has had to pull together has been the shining star in all of this.”
Mary Lou says the team continues to support one another, from sharing positive feedback from patients and families to covering shifts for their sick colleagues.
“The mission and vision are just always there with my team. Every day, people take care of these patients and they do it with compassion and care and with all of their heart. That’s the biggest thing that I’ve seen with our team.”
