When Patricia (Trish) Flores-Worobec saw the job posting for Covenant Foundation’s new granting officer position, she felt like the role was made just for her. Coming from working at a nonprofit seniors’ centre, Trish was already very familiar with the Covenant family and had worked directly with residents moving in and out of Covenant facilities. Submitting grant funding requests on behalf of the facility gave Trish a deep understanding and appreciation of how donor funds positively impact the quality of life of residents and staff.
“The role at the foundation encompasses everything I am passionate about,” Trish says. “I know firsthand what it is like working at a nonprofit facility that relies on grants and donations, so I look forward to using my knowledge and experience to help grant applicants in the Covenant family navigate the process more easily.”
Since 2000, Covenant Foundation has committed more than $58 million to advance health care across the province through investments in specialized programs, innovative research, enhanced care spaces, state-of-the-art medical equipment and staff training. To maximize donor impact, the foundation focuses philanthropic support where it’s needed most — on health issues facing vulnerable and under-served populations and on the unmet needs of communities. These priorities include seniors’ health and well-being, mental health and addictions, rural care, palliative care, women and children’s health, and spiritual care and mission.
As the foundation’s granting officer, Trish works directly with the 21 hospitals and continuing care sites the foundation supports. Sites submit their grant requests to the Covenant executive leadership team, which prioritizes local and provincial health delivery needs and forwards the vetted requests to the foundation for consideration and approval by its board. Trish is equipped to guide grant applicants through the process and answer their questions.
“I can work directly with sites to help them maximize the grant money they receive and assist them right through the entire application process.”
Trish has already helped several staff members with their applications for the current grant cycle, which opened in November.
Most of all, Trish is thrilled to work in a values-driven organization full of people who are passionate about their work.
“I feel so welcome in the Covenant family, and I can’t wait to help more staff optimize their grant applications and ultimately make a greater difference for patients, residents and families in Covenant’s care with grant funding from the foundation.”
