Meet Morley Ramsay, pharmacy technician

When Morley Ramsay, a long-term Covenant Health employee and pharmacy technician for corporate pharmacy services, was faced with an equipment challenge, he put his puzzle-solving skills to work. His solutions helped his team not only save money but also conserve time and resources in an already overloaded system.

“Our equipment was coming to its end of life,” says Morley. “I was able to pull everything together, and this prevented us from getting all new equipment or having a lesser quality product.”

The team’s equipment needed to work with Connect Care software, which is used to scan barcodes on pharmaceutical products, ensuring the right medication is administered to the right patient. Originally, the software vendor told the team that new equipment was necessary because the team’s medication packagers could not produce a fully functional barcode that would work with the Connect Care software. Morley reconfigured the existing equipment so that a barcode that was compatible with the Connect Care system could be produced.

Morley’s solutions to this challenge led to him being nominated for and receiving Covenant’s 2023 Mission Award for Stewardship. The award recognizes staff, physicians and volunteers who find creative ways to use resources wisely, decreasing waste, increasing effectiveness and building sustainability.

When asked how he felt about being the successful recipient, Morley says, “I was shocked. Pharmacy Services isn’t a huge program, but all that creative problem-solving and thinking out of the box paid off. It was really nice to be recognized.”

Morley has been a Covenant employee since 2008, when he became a pharmacy technician. Since then, he has taken on multiple different roles, including pharmacy unit manager and now pharmacy technician quality lead.

Morley is a firm believer in taking chances. “Don’t be afraid to take on an opportunity,” he says.

“Throw your name in. You will learn a lot, and you have support here. Taking these chances made me a better employee, a better pharmacy technician and a better leader.”
