Meet Brenda Jamieson, registered nurse
August 23, 2023
Brenda Jamieson found her fit in Trochu.
Working as a travel nurse, she first came to St. Mary’s Health Care Centre in 2021. After about a year she made the decision to put her roots down and take a permanent position at the Covenant Health site.
I have 29 years of nursing behind me, I’ve been just about everywhere,” she says.
She spent time working in Texas, Utah, British Columbia and various locations around Alberta before settling in Trochu.
“I’ve always been a small-town girl, so Trochu felt like a good fit. I like the size of the unit and the people I work with here are wonderful, so I decided to move out here and stay.”
Although she has experience working in more urban settings, she prefers rural healthcare at this stage in her career.
“The pace is different, it’s more relaxed. You can take the time to know your people, their families and their history.”
She knew from an early age that nursing was the career path she wanted to follow.
“My grandmother used to call me her little nurse, it’s just always something I’ve been interested in.”
For anyone considering a career in nursing Brenda stresses the importance of gaining a wide variety of experience to find your fit.
“Go everywhere, get all the experience you can, then decide what you want to do.”
