Meet Alanna Kissel
Clinical care coordinator and assistant head nurse, Bonnyville Health Centre
January 18, 2021
Alanna Kissel says one of the best parts about working in a rural healthcare setting is the teamwork.
“The collaboration is one of my favourite parts of the job,” says Alanna, clinical care coordinator and assistant head nurse at Bonnyville Health Centre. “I take pride in how a rural facility can work together to accomplish so many things.”
Alanna provides ongoing obstetrical training for the nurses in Bonnyville, and she is passionate about supporting and mentoring staff. A rural setting is an excellent place to start your nursing career, she says.
“You get such an in-depth education because you have to learn how to manage so many different types of medical conditions. In one shift, I have gone from bringing life into this world to holding someone’s hand as they left. Working in rural prepares you for handling almost anything.”
The respect and communication between physicians and nurses are the best of any place she’s worked, says Alanna, a 2020 Mission Awards nominee for Integrity. And she’s proud of what they’ve been able to achieve together, such as becoming just the third hospital in Alberta to receive the Baby-Friendly designation.
“That collaboration makes such a huge difference for what we can accomplish in our little facility, and it makes a huge difference in our patient care.”
We’re looking for additional nursing staff across Alberta to support our ongoing response to COVID-19. At Covenant Health, you’ll find a supportive and fulfilling workplace where you can flourish and find your calling to serve with compassion and integrity.
