Kayla Jackson, LPN
April 4, 2016
When Kayla Jackson moved to Castor and started working as a licensed practical nurse at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, she wasn’t sure what to expect. She had just moved from Cochrane for her now-husband and was delighted to be immediately embraced by her new colleagues.
“I’ve never felt so welcomed, ever, to a job,” Kayla says. “I was a new nurse coming into Castor, so it was very intimidating.”
New to her profession when she began working at the hospital, Kayla was keen to expand her skills and was able to grow quickly, thanks to the support of her team.
“I found the staff so accepting, and they encouraged me to use my skills,” she says. “They were so helpful and eager to teach me.”
Kayla says the hospitality she felt at her new workplace is also present throughout Castor as a whole. She made friends through her work, many of them with children the same age as hers, and values the town’s neighbourly culture.
“Wherever you go, people will greet you,” she says. “It’s comforting to know people are there for you. If your car broke down, people would stop for you. Even the businesses support each other here.”
Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital is looking to fill a variety of positions, including registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, health care aide and housekeeping worker. careers.covenanthealth.ca
